As experienced roofers, we know sometimes the aesthetics of the roof is a big consideration.  But other times, you are more interested in the function that the look.  Either way, rubber roofs have their use and are worth considering for some situations.

Rubber roofing, also known as EPDM, is a very cost-effective material for flat roofs.  It is lightweight and easy to install so labour costs are greatly reduced compared to other types of roof.  The rubber is glued into place so there is no heat use which can be a big issue for some commercial jobs.

The rubber material is also very durable and lasts a long time.  Most times it is laid as a single piece with few seams and this means fewer places for water to sneak through.  It is not susceptible to UV rays so can last easily 50 years.  This makes it a very cost-effective option for your home or business.

Maintenance and repairs

Maintenance with rubber roofs is very minimal – a coat of acrylic paint every 10 years or so is often all that is needed.  And should something happen, and the roof does leak, it is very easy to repair as there is special tape to seal gaps in rubber that fixes the problem.  The rubber itself is a very ‘green’ material for roofs because it uses less energy to produce and is often made from recycled materials.
